Designing theatrical costumes is an art! Learn the design process used by the pros to build character costumes. Students will explore the world of costume design by learning how to analyze a script and characters, getting their ideas on paper with pencil, ink and watercolor, and constructing a costume using versatile, inexpensive and sometimes even recycled materials. Learning what goes into creating a costume that portrays the playwright’s intention and the designer’s imagination will be emphasized.
Students will have the opportunity to model their designs in a Costume Parade at the end of class as well as display their renderings and share their ideas behind their design choices for family and friends. A unique class for those interested in a more behind-the-scenes theatre arts experience with a little showing off for fun!
* Note: Semester-long class goes into basic sewing and building costumes from thrift store clothing purchased by students for their final project.
